My Experiences
Here are some of my experiences that led up to who I am now.
PARSONS Intensive Program: 2024
In the Summer of 2024, I took a pre-college in New York at Parsons School of Design. This was one of my favorite experiences ever. The course I took was called Visual Presentation, and we learned how to present our ideas and designs through collages, artwork, and capsules with various media. From draping old clothing into something completely new, to intricate drawings of flats, I learned how the fashion industry requires a lot more than just sewing and drawing. I had such an amazing time here at Parsons. I am so grateful to have met so many talented people and get to experience what it was like to be a student at a fashion school.
FIT Precollege Course (in-person): 2023
I had the opportunity to fly to New York to take two pre-college courses at the Fashion Institute of Technology. I took two sewing courses, one focused on dressmaking, and the other was centered on sportswear. This three-week course, undoubtedly the most exciting weeks of my life, immersed me in the intricate steps of garment development, and guided the students through each stage of the process. Here I made some new friends and ran into old ones.
Seamstress Job: 2023
Throughout the summer of 2023, I helped sew garments for a local designer in my town. She envisioned specific detailing that needed to be added or changed, and I would then carry out these instructions by sewing them at home. I mainly added fabric to the pockets, collars, or the back of the clothing, onto a piece of clothing from a thrift store or other places. She would also let me have some creative freedom while creating a new piece, trusting my ideas.
SpaceIn Art Studio: 2023
I took art classes to learn how to draw the basic foundation of the human body, fabric on a figure, and different types of poses. I believe that my drawing skills have drastically improved from these classes.
FIT Precollege Program (online): 2023
I registered for an online FIT Precollege Program in the Spring of 2023. I had an amazing instructor, Susanna Moyer, who was also my instructor for the course I took in 2022. She guided the students to create a self identity mood board and a few designs/sketches to create a cohesive mini portfolio.
Designer Camp: 2022
I went to Designer Camp in the summer of 2022 which is located in Los Angeles, California. During the week, we had daily workshops and guest speakers to educate us about the fashion industry. Throughout the week, we created a designer portfolio consisting of a mood board, and a few sketches that inspired by it. It was a great opportunity to meet others who also have the desire to pursue in fashion.
FIT Precollege Program (online): 2022
I registered for an online FIT pre-college program from the beginning of 2022 to late June to help enhance my experiences with designing and sketching. I learned what it is like to create a mini portfolio like the projects in college, and how to create mood boards based off of my own experiences. For example, I designed a mini collection inspired by my trip to New York City in the Spring of 2022.
Online Sewing Lessons: 2020-2022
When the pandemic started, I wasn't able to attend my usual in-person sewing lessons. Therefore, I was fortunate enough to take virtual lesson with my favorite sewing instructor, Julia. I have learned all of my sewing skills from her. From different hems, to an entire Cruella costume.
Sewnow: 2018-2020
Sewnow was the place where I first discovered my passion for sewing. I had a girl scout field trip to Sewnow to learn how to sew a pillow. After that, I suddenly found my love for sewing. I started taking lessons at the age of ten. Unfortunately in 2020, they had to close down because of the pandemic. However, I learned all of my basic sewing skills here from a simple tote bag to a whole trench coat.
